MRCA User's Guide (2000)

The purpose of this guide is to assist and provide information to MRCA members and others involved in the roofing industry, so they may complete trouble-free roofs that will obtain their maximum service life.

 

1959-1969 Reports on Ten Years of Roofing Research

In 1960 amid growing evidence of premature failures of new Built Up Roofs our Association sought to discover causes by examining in the laboratory roofs that had not failed, roofs that had endured the ravages of time, moisture and temperature for 30 or 40 years, or longer.

Report on Results of Tear Strength Tests on Asphalt Shingles (1993)

As a result of complaints and reported failures and problems with the 20-year guaranteed asphalt fiberglass shingles throughout the Midwest, MRCA conducted a survey of its members in June 1992 to determine the extent and type of problems being encountered.

 

Application Effects of Hot Asphalt on Roof Insulation (1988)

A two part test program was undertaken to determine the application effects of hot asphalt on various roof insulation boards.

Type IV & Type VI Fiberglass Felt Test Results (1997)

The testing program is designed to evaluate Type IV and Type VI fiberglass felts.

 

Type VI Fiberglass Felt Test Results (1991)

The 1991 test program was designed to include the continued evaluation of Type IV fiberglass felts according to ASTM D2178 tensile strength procedures as well as the testing of 3-ply BUR samples according to the NBS Building Sciences Series 55 guidelines.

Type IV Fiberglass Felt Test Results (1987)

The MRCA designed the 1987 test program to include the continued evaluation of fiberglass felts according to ASTM D2178 Type IV tensile strength procedures as well as the testing of 3-ply BUR samples as per NBS Building Science Series 55 and determining strain energy values

MB sheets, which were considered to have equivalent properties, have been observed to have significantly different characteristics, possibly due to reduced varying polymer content.

MRCA and NRCA conducted a field research study where 109 polymer-modified bitumen roof systems were inspected and their condition documented.

TPO (2010)

TPO Samples from the New England area show serious cracking, which suggests that TPO deterioration is occurring in Northerly, cold climates, not just high heat area in the Southern US.

Splice Tape for Use in EPDM Roof Systems (1994)

Adhesive tapes are coming into wide use for splicing EPDM roof sheets together, forming a roof membrane. This paper reviews the history of adhesive tapes, especially in making seam splices.

 

Repair Methods for Re-Attaching EPDM Membrane & Flashing Experiencing Shrinkage (1994)

Large numbers of EPDM roofs are now in service, with many of them in excess of 10 years old. A wide variety of EPDM flashing details have been used at roof terminations. Every EPDM manufacturer or marketer of EPDM roof membrane systems has changed their flashing details since the early 1980's.

 

Personal Protective Equipment Guide for Application of Single Ply Systems (1984)

A number of the solvents, adhesives and other products currently used in the application of single ply roofing systems may be, in and of themselves, or, as a result of their use, hazardous to the health of the workmen engaged in the application. This document is viewed as a step toward establishing performance indicators for elastomeric single ply roofing systems. It is meant to help develop materials used for single ply sheet roofing and serve as a building block for increasing performance knowledge.

MRCA Roof Coatings Research (2001)

MRCA conducted an in-situ research program to study the performance attributes of liquid-applied roof coatings. Six, full-scale test roofs have been coated and are exposed to the weather in four different climatic regions of the United States.
