CERTA Train the Trainer Reauthorization
The CERTA Train-the-trainer Reauthorization course is significantly different than the original 10-hour Train-the-trainer course. Participants will advance their training and facilitation skills and receive specific training on the requirements of the torch applicator recertification class. The CERTA Train-the-trainer Reauthorization course is a six and one-half hour program that runs from 10 am to 4:30 pm and includes a working lunch.

History of CERTA
In 1986, the Midwest Roofing Contractors Association in conjunction with industry organizations the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Assocation and United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers developed a curriculum to train roofing workers in the safe application of torch-applied roof systems. This program was named the Certified Roofing Torch Applicator (CERTA) program.
In 2009 the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) made an arrangement with MRCA to adopt and revise the CERTA program to meet industry needs. The current CERTA program provides the best practices and new industry requirements for torching activities. CERTA delivers these requirements through a certification program comprised of authorized trainers delivering effective behavior-based training to roofing workers. MRCA continues to work with NRCA to make sure the program is the best it can be. There is no comparable training program available in the roofing industry.
Safety is the cornerstone of success for any roof system installation. The new CERTA program is designed to provide safety training for roofing professionals at all levels. The standards and best practices comprising this certification program should provide individual companies with the information and procedures they need to implement and expand their safety programs.
