Technical & Research Committee Given Industry's Highest Award

2014 Mccawley Award

This year the James Q. McCawley Award Committee, comprised exclusively of past McCawley Award Winners, made a special award to help celebrate the 65th Anniversary Celebration of the Technical and Research Committee. The T&R Committee has been one of the defining elements of the MRCA and has contributed landmark projects that have had significant impact to the roofing industry.  This award was accepted by Dr. Renee Dupuis, MRCA's long-time technical advisors.  Congratulations to all the T&R Committee Members, past and present on this unique honor.

The T&R Committee also held a special panel discussion to highlight sixty-five years of great research by the T&R Committee.  Moderator Randy Adams of  R. Adams Roofing, Inc.joined panelists: John Daly of Kaw Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc.; Rene Dupuis, PhD of SRI; Glenn Langer of Langer Roofing and Sheet Metal; and Josh Wolford, R. Adams Roofing, Inc. From their first 1965 brochure, “Don’t Panic—Here’s How to Make a Roof Drain,” this committee revolutionized the roofing industry as architects uniformly adopted its slope recommendations. Since then, the MRCA Technical & Research (T&R) Committee’s work has had a dramatic impact on roofing contractors throughout the country. Everyone present enjoyed remembering these breakthrough findings that are still relevant today from first-hand witnesses during this trip through MRCA’s history.
